Which Parchment Sheet Fits Which Pan: Sizes for Sheet, Cake and Loaf Pans

By the team at The Parchment Paper ·

A parchment sheet that is an inch too big creeps up the rim and shades the edge of the bake, while one an inch too small leaves bare metal that sticks. This guide lists the sheet, liner or round for each common US pan and shows how to measure before you order.

Why the sheet is smaller than the pan

Sheet pans are named by their outside rim, not the floor. A half sheet pan is 13 by 18 inches at the rim, but the flat floor inside the sloped walls is closer to 12 by 16 inches.

That is why the sheet that fits a half sheet pan is 12 by 16 inches. It covers the floor edge to edge and stops at the foot of the wall. It never rides up and curls over a tray of cookies under the fan.

The same rule runs through every pan in this guide. Measure the floor, order to the floor, and the paper lies flat.

Which parchment sheet fits a quarter, half or full sheet pan?

The three sheet pans cover most bakery and restaurant lines, and each has one sheet size that drops in without trimming.

A quarter sheet pan at 9 by 13 inches takes a 9 by 13 sheet, since the small pan has shallow walls and little slope. The half sheet pan takes 12 by 16 inches and is the usual pick across the catalog. A full sheet pan at 18 by 26 inches takes a 16 by 24 sheet.

Half sheet pan13 x 18 in12 x 16 inThe usual pick for most kitchens
Full sheet pan18 x 26 in16 x 24 inLies flat inside the sloped wall
Full sheet pan, edge to edge18 x 26 in18 x 26 inClimbs the wall, for wet or saucy items

The 18 by 26 option exists for sheet-pan dinners and braises where you want the paper up the sides to catch juices. For cookies and bread, stay with 16 by 24. Our pre-cut parchment sheets for sheet pans come in all four sizes.

What size liner does an 8 inch square pan need?

An 8 inch square brownie or bar pan has straight walls about 2 inches high. A flat 8 by 8 sheet covers the floor only, which is fine for bars you cut in the pan.

If you want to lift the whole slab out, you need a liner that climbs two walls. That is a strip 8 inches wide and about 12 inches long, laid in with the ends up the sides as handles.

A liner with cut corners does both at once. The corners are notched so the paper folds up all four walls without bunching, and the slab lifts out clean with the paper around it.

How do I line a 9 by 13 cake pan?

A 9 by 13 cake pan shares its name with the quarter sheet pan, but the walls are taller, usually 2 inches. A flat 9 by 13 liner covers the floor for sheet cakes that are frosted and served in the pan.

For a cake that comes out whole, order the liner with cut corners. It covers the floor and runs up all four walls, so the cake releases from the sides as well as the bottom.

Give us the floor measurement and the wall height and we cut the liner to match. Parchment pan liners with cut corners are quoted by pan size, straight or with corners removed.

Which parchment fits a loaf pan?

Loaf pans vary more than any other pan. The two common US sizes are 9 by 5 inches and 8.5 by 4.5 inches, and both taper, so the floor is smaller than the rim.

Most bakers line a loaf pan with a sling. That is a strip as wide as the floor and long enough to run up both long walls with an inch to spare. For a 9 by 5 pan that is roughly 5 inches wide by 15 inches long.

A full liner with cut corners is the other option for quick breads and pound cakes that stick at the ends. Measure the floor and the wall height and send both on the quote.

Which round fits a cake pan by diameter?

Rounds are cut to the pan diameter and sit on the floor only. A 9 inch pan takes a 9 inch round, which is the usual pick, and a springform of the same size takes the same round.

The lineup runs from 6 to 12 inches in whole inch steps, which covers tiered wedding cakes from the top tier down. A pan with a flared wall still takes its named diameter, since the round sits on the floor, not the rim.

For a pan between sizes, round down. A round that is a quarter inch too large lifts at one edge and lets batter run under. See the parchment rounds from 6 to 12 inches for the full set.

How do I measure an air fryer basket for a liner?

Air fryer baskets are measured at the floor, never at the rim. The walls slope inward, and a liner cut to the rim folds up the sides and blocks the airflow that makes the appliance work.

Turn the basket over or run a tape across the inside floor from wall to wall. Round baskets usually land at 6.5, 7.5 or 8.5 inches and square baskets at about 9 inches.

Liners for baskets come with lift tabs so you can pull a hot item out without tongs. The air fryer liners with lift tabs are cut round or square to those floor sizes, and any other size is a custom cut.

How to measure any pan before you order

Five minutes with a tape saves a case of sheets that do not fit:

  1. Turn the pan over and measure the outside of the floor, wall to wall, in both directions. Ignore the rim.
  2. Measure the wall height on the inside, from floor to rim.
  3. Note whether the walls are straight or sloped. Sloped walls mean the floor is the number to order to.
  4. For a round pan, measure the floor diameter across the center.
  5. For a loaf pan, measure the floor length and width and the wall height separately.
  6. Write the three figures on the quote form with the pan type and how many pans you line a day.

If a pan has a rolled rim or a brand stamp on the floor, measure the flat area the paper will touch. The sizes chart on our pan sizing chart for parchment page lists each pan beside the paper that fits it.

When should you order liners with cut corners?

A flat sheet is the right pick when the item is baked and served from the pan. It also suits anything firm enough to slide off a floor-only sheet. Cookies, rolls, roasted vegetables and sheet-pan meals all fall here.

Cut corners earn their place when the paper has to go up the walls:

  • Cakes and bars that come out of the pan whole, so the sides release as well as the base.
  • Pans with tall straight walls, where a flat sheet leaves bare metal above the bake.
  • Wet batters that would run between a flat sheet and the pan wall.
  • Deep roasting pans where juices need to stay on the paper, not on the metal.
  • Any pan you want to wipe rather than scrub at the end of service.

Lift tabs are a separate option. They are extra paper left at two ends so the whole bake lifts out, and they suit brownie slabs, focaccia and anything you cut on a board.

Custom sizes, rolls and ordering the right fit

Any size not on the typical list is a custom cut. Odd pans, hotel pans and imported bakeware all get a sheet cut to their floor, quoted the same way as a standard size.

A roll is the fallback for a kitchen with many pan sizes and no space for cases of each. Tear to length and trim the width on the bench. Rolls are quoted by the roll, and pre-cut sheets by the thousand.

Send the pan measurements and quantities through the parchment quote request form and you will have a written price within one business day. Production is 4 to 6 business days after you approve the proof, with free tracked delivery to any US address.

Questions about this guide

Why does a half sheet pan take a 12 x 16 inch parchment sheet?

Because the pan is 13 by 18 at the rim but only about 12 by 16 at the floor inside the sloped wall. A 12 by 16 sheet covers the floor and lies flat.

Does a full sheet pan take a 16 x 24 or an 18 x 26 sheet?

A 16 by 24 sheet fits the floor and is the usual pick. The 18 by 26 size runs up the walls, which suits sheet-pan dinners and anything saucy.

What parchment size lines a quarter sheet pan?

A 9 by 13 inch sheet. The quarter pan has shallow walls with little slope, so the sheet named for the rim size covers the floor.

Should an 8 inch square brownie pan use a flat sheet or a liner?

A flat 8 by 8 sheet covers the floor for bars cut in the pan. Order a liner with cut corners if you want to lift the slab out whole.

How is a 9 x 13 cake pan liner different from a quarter sheet liner?

The cake pan has taller walls, so its liner usually has cut corners that fold up the sides. The quarter sheet liner is a flat 9 by 13 sheet.

What parchment size makes a sling for a 9 x 5 loaf pan?

A strip about 5 inches wide and 15 inches long. It covers the floor and runs up both long walls with enough spare to grip.

Which parchment round fits a 10 inch springform pan?

A 10 inch round, cut to the pan diameter. The round sits on the floor and the clamped wall holds it in place.

Why should an air fryer basket be measured at the floor?

The walls slope inward, so a liner sized to the rim folds up the sides and blocks airflow. Measure the flat floor wall to wall and order to that.

Can I get a parchment sheet cut for a hotel pan or an odd pan?

Yes, any size off the typical list is a custom cut. Send the floor measurements and wall height on the quote and we cut to them.

Is a roll or pre-cut sheets better for a kitchen with many pan sizes?

A roll, if bench space allows tearing to length each time. Pre-cut sheets suit a line that uses the same two or three pans all day. The parchment paper rolls by width page lists the roll widths.
